Violent Death Data

Violence, whether from assault or self-inflicted, takes the lives of more than five North Carolinians every day (2020). The North Carolina Violent Death Reporting System (NC-VDRS) provides detailed information on violent deaths to not only understand the “who, when, where, and how” but also “why” these deaths occurred. These surveillance data can improve understanding of the causes and circumstances of violent deaths to inform and tailor violence prevention in the state.

After viewing this page, if you find yourself needing more information on violent deaths in North Carolina, please review the Injury and Violence Prevention Branch data request policies and procedures for steps on how to make a custom data request.
